“When I first started swinging a bat, I swung righty. So one time, my dad came home, and he wanted to see my batting stance. So I showed him. He says, 'You don't hit right-handed. You hit left-handed.' At that age I didn't even really think about it. Just like 'all right,' and I switched hands. He said I'd thank him later.” (Prince Fielder) Just as the baseball player demonstrated, we often make decisions without being open-minded to other options. The analogy of the baseball player, solely narrow-minded to being right dominant, goes hand-in-hand to how many of us are prejudice to our views on illegal immigration. As the majority of the United States has an opinion on the topic, it is often established by how it affects them; their jobs, their taxes, and their kids. As citizens we need to keep an open mind to how immigration not only affects our lives but the immigrants themselves, also considering the impact immigrants have on the economy, health care, and education systems.
